FROM BROADWAY TO CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD FILM

My favourite musical of all time is The Little Shop of Horrors. I fell in love with this show when I was eight years old and it's been a constant, unconditional love ever since. So, when I found out that the musical was actually inspired by the original 1960 The Little Shop of Horrors film by Roger Corman I had to see it and I had to share it with at least 99 other people at AMT Theater for the first of our Black & Whites at AMT fundraising event.

Listen closely, we need to be fed, but unlike Audrey II we don't require blood payment, just $15 (but with this code, BL10, you get 10% off ) will nourish us and in return you will get entertained by me trying my hand at being MC (I will channel my inner Audrey II who is simply bursting with confidence despite the desire to devour all human beings), Kelli Maguire and Spencer Neumann will be singing some choice numbers from the musical inspired by this film (I would sing, but people generally pay me not to be subjected to that...although it may work as a fundraiser...I'll keep that in my back pocket) and we will be having a pop quiz with prizes to conclude the evening! We may or may not have a bar as well all depending on the license gods (pray for us). Every penny raised will go towards our Summer Reading Festival in August, it's a worthy cause.

Now, AMT is determined to support and showcase new work, the way we do this is by having our Reading Festivals each season. Our Spring festival was fantastic and we are all set for our Summer Reading Festival happening August 22 - 24 and the best part is that we have kept all our New Work Development Readings FREE for writers and audience members, it's all on us because we know the value in supporting and nurturing new work. Every new Broadway show started as a reading somewhere, it was a kernel of an idea that was given water and light by a theater and a supportive group of people who gave feedback and constructive criticism to enable the playwright to develop the idea into a fully formed play. It is not cheap running a reading festival so we need fundraisers to subsidise our passion to develop new work. This Summer Festival will also be the first time we showcase a Spanish Language play, super exciting stuff, and it's not too late to submit your Spanish play, you have until next Monday.

So, we thought, why not use old films to support new plays - OLD WORK FOR NEW WORK really. It's logical and you should not miss out on spending an evening with fun people, in a cool (in every sense) theater watching a golden oldie film with the chance to win prizes! For added fun feel free to dress up in any way you see fit, Black & White for the theme or as a character from the film...if anyone comes as Audrey II that is an automatic gift from me.
